Coheed and Cambria's Year of the Black Rainbow
So since they anounced this album I've been pretty underwhelmed, thinking it's gonna be pretty crappy. Their last one, No World For Tomorrow, was
utter fucking garbage. The first song was pretty sweet, but kind of bland, and after that it just went down fucking hill. And the new one is gonna be
this "prequel" and they're still stuck in their crazy star wars fantasy land, blah blah blah. All signs pointing towards something even blander.
Well recently, after buying tickets to go see them I found out they released some new tracks off the new album on their myspace page. Wow what a
turnaround, I'm now really looking forward to this album. Those two songs are already a billion times better than anything on No World For Tomorrow.
Chris Pennie is finally contributing, and they've developed a darker grittier sound. It is just awsome to see that they've reinvigorated their sound.
Seriously just check out the tracks, I'm now really excited for the new album, and even more excited to go see them.
Seriously, just check out the tracks.
Just for Lordo, even though it doesn't help him because he had to google
it!:www.myspace.com/coheedandcambria

I'm disappointed at The Broken the same way I was disappointed over much of the last album. The song structures are too formulaic. The Willing Well I:
Fuel for the Feeding End is an example of how creative Coheed can be in their song structures:

(video unrelated)
I feel the newer material is MUCH less creative in the bass and drums department. The new drummer simply doesn't suit coheed like their previous one
(a hip-hop drummer) did.
Even if you didn't like the last album, listen through The End Complete a few times. I think TEC III's climax is one of coheed's most powerful
moments, even though the song could be better in its structure. I also love the intro to TEC V. The strings are so nice from this point on:

Special edition ordered a while ago, but I haven't heard any of the new stuff. I want my Easter present to be unspoiled :) Still hope for a better
album than NWFT, which was very good... but weaker than the 3 previous ones imo.

The one with the 350 page novel? The fact that they're doing that is pretty nuts. I like the ambition, but honestly I'm already tired of the whole
damn concept. Though if the new album rocks, I could care less haha.

Leakage. One listen through I am really enjoying this album. It's a different darker style for them, kind of brooding and the production has got to be
their best to date. Plus the songs just kick ass, really good performances, Claudio really let's loose on the vocals, the guitars sound raunchy, the
bass is thick and rich, and the drums beat the shit out of you. I need to give it some more listens, but this is deffinitely a solid album.

Totally not what I listened to Coheed for.
It's okay, I guess. Better than their last album, but I don't think they'll ever get to the youthful energy of their first two, or the rather
successful attempt at complexity of their third.

I don't know I mean, what I loved about the first two albums is the youthful energy combined with the incredibly dark themes. In fact I feel in a
certain way the first two albums are actually very dark musically and thematically which is one of the things that drew me to it. Especially songs
like Everything Evil, The Crowing, the Velorium Camper series, I mean and like Welcome Home and In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 the song are
also really dark in a way that kicks ass. I mean maybe we're drawn to the band for different reasons, but I always loved their dark side.

The eponymous track is a disappointment of a closer. It lingers around the same verse for four minutes. Not the sort of songwriting I'd hoped for.
