I think you should all see "Wings of Desire" by Wim Wenders. It´s a piece of art and a fantastic movie full of poetry and the beauty of
being a human being.
Another "must" is "City of Lost Children" by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Marc Caro. A scientist kidnaps children to steal their dreams
hoping they slow his aging process. The characters are amazing and the photography is a killer.

"La Cité des Enfants Perdus" (City of Lost Children) is another of these movies I really want to see. Same director as "Amélie
Poulain", which I said was my favorite movie of all time, so I bet it's really good.
Haven't heard of Wings of Desire. I should check it out.

Oi, I never said I didn't like samurai movies, I said I was watching one that didn't appeal to me.
Funny that you should mention Shichinin No Samurai/The Seven Samurai, as I saw the Western remake of it, The Magnificent Seven, two days ago. It was
really good. I love the cowboy ethics of individuality.
helofloki: T2 is a must-see-100-times type of movie. One of the 5 best action movies ever.
How is Hero compared to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I love the latter, which is a thing of true beauty. Fantastic movie.
Coren, regarding Irreversible: Is the movie just disturbing and speculative, or does it have good story / strong characters to go with it. It
sounds interesting, but unlimited misery and nihilism does not appeal to me as art, mostly. (Requiem for a Dream is mostly misery, but it isn't
nihilistic!)

Well, Irreversible is mostly about the shocking elements. If you look at the story, it's basically a revenge-story, not much more. But it
touches a wide range of emotions, which is why I thought it was interesting.
It's not really empty, but it only leaves an impression because of the misery.
It's not as good as Requiem for a Dream, but it's disturbing in a more human (or inhuman?) way.
I really can't say if you'll like it or not, every person is different. I just think it's worth a shot.

The Hours: if you want a movie which makes you think about Life and feel a lot of emotions, it's the right one.
Memento is a masterpiece!
Murder in the first, great movie, Kevin Bacon is incredible.
The Green Mile: superb!
Dogville, very dark and mysterious, Nicole Kidman is a goddess!

IMO CT HD is definitly the better movie, since it´s much more emotional and well-balanced....hero on the other hand is the most amazing action and
fight sequences you´ll ever see. The love story, however, wasn´t quite as hunting as in CT HD. Both are fantastic, though.

The only movie that's ever made me cry is Savior, starring Dennis Quaid. There's just something about the actors and the storyline
that I really find appealing.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120070/
And to the stupid reviewer in IMDB who didn't get who the 'savior' was, it was obviously the baby..

I will cast more votes for The Shawshank Redemption, American History X, and Fight Club. In addition, I will highly recommend Gattaca and, also,
anything directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

Go get it asap.. and the ending is by the way what really got to me. The music is really beautiful, and contributes a lot to the movie.

Gattaca is nice, I took some samples from the movie to use in one of my band's songs...
Also, anything by Kevin Smith, minus Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back if you don't like toilet humor.... I would recommend either Clerks or Chasing
Amy as THE masterpiece.
Anything by Tim Burton as well, where the best would be either Edward Scissorhands or Big Fish.
The Usual Suspect was great.
Hmmm.... Being John Malkovitz is a surreal movie and I really like it, also The Human Nature, which is also a script by Charlie Kauffman.

First the Kevin Smith part. Very enjoyable director. Very funny as well. I must say I didn't really like chasing Amy very much. There's too
much talking, it get's really boring the first time through, so you can imagine the multiple watch value of it. I mostly like Kevin Smith for
his humor to tell you the truth. Though I did find the christian mythology in dogma (key word mythology) very interesting. I do enjoy mythology I must
say. Oh, and stick to the Jay and Silent Bob kevin Smith movies. Jersey Girl wasn't bad, but Vulgar was just as bad as the name implied. It
wasn't funny it was purely sick. Funny is the key word though when talking about Kevin Smith, for sure.
OH and about Tim Burton. He is the ultimate master of imagery. It's way cool. Sleepy Hallow, Edward Scissorhands, all awsome.

for dialogue and screenwriting:
Ghostworld by Terri Zweigel..he also did 2003's Bad Santa. GW is the best movie of the last 5 or 10 years IMO. 1 of those flicks I
never get tired of, always laugh at the jokes, cleverly written, and very relateable to prog and more of the free thinking fan of the arts. Whether
good or bad, there is some "Star Trek Geeks" in all of us, and this movie tapes into some of that. Scarlett Johannson and Thora Birch are
good eye candy as well and Steve Buscemi rulez.
Bridget Jones Diary
For fans of Being John Malkovich another Charlie Kaufman story came out this year in film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Secretary is not impossible to find, but not in every rental store or media outlet. However, you'd probably not have trouble finding it
through Netflix.
I saw a film I on IFC or Sundance Channel that I think was the movie referred to The Piano Teacher which was a subtitled in english film about
a teacher who gets sexually involved with 1 of her students and effects both of their performances, and if I recall leads to jealousy and life
threatening circumstances.
Palookaville which features Vincent Gallo who starred in and wrote/ and directed in Buffalo'66 and yes, they did have Heartof the Sunrise, The Sweetness from Yes and Moonchild from King Crimson in the soundtrack. Palookaville is like a more
humrous version of Reservoir Dogs but it's about a group robbing an armored truck with $ vs Gang revenge.
damn, I could rattle off a lot more..maybe later. I love IFC and Sundance and films in general.
